SEVEN DAYS & SEVEN THEMES! Waste Reduction Week in Canada engages Canadians on circular economy, resource efficiency, and waste reduction and this year is the 20th anniversary! The program’s primary purpose is to celebrate our environmental efforts and achievements while encouraging new innovative ideas and solutions. For decades the current industrial model has been based on the TAKE ➡ MAKE ➡ WASTE model. Products have been designed for convenience with little consideration for the environment and the waste left behind. A circular economy disrupts this model of consumption by designing products that can be made ‘to be made again’. It’s a TAKE ➡ MAKE ➡ REUSE/ SHARE/ REPAIR/ RECYCLE/ REPLENISH model! Have you purchased a refurbished or upcycled product? Did you repair an item rather than tossing it and buying new? Do you choose to purchase products that are plastic-free or made with recycled materials? Yay! You are helping to reduce waste and advance a circular economy. Keep it up! Join the conversation on social media using the program hashtag #WasteReductionWeek. Share your ideas, tips, stories, and pictures of waste reduction and circular economy in action. Tag us too when you do. Click here to learn more!
