HOMEMADE ICED TEA

This Summer, instead of buying bottled or canned iced tea, try making your own! It is so easy to do. All you need are black tea bags (make sure to choose a bag that is not made of plastic), two lemons, and a sweetener (I like to use maple syrup). This recipe makes over 3 litres of iced tea and the best part is that it is better for you, will save you money, and reduces waste! Here’s how to make it: Fill a large pot with water, cover, and bring to a boil. While the water is coming to a boil wash your lemons and then using a peeler, peel off their skin into a small pot. Add 1/3 cup of sweetener to the lemon peels (I prefer maple syrup) and 1/3 cup of water and bring to a boil mixing often. Once the large pot of water has come to a boil, turn the burner off, and add about 6 tea bags to the water and let them steap. Once the lemon mixture comes to a boil turn the burner to low and let the mixture simmer for approximately 5 minutes, stirring often. Using a sieve, strain the lemon peels from the mixture and then put the liquid back in the small pot. Squeeze the lemon juice from the peeled lemons into the small pot with the lemon mixture. Remove the tea bags from the large pot. Pour the lemon mixture into the big pot of tea. Mix together and you’ve got yourself a delicious summer beverage.
